A Memorable Trip

The trip from Puerto Jimenez (12 miles or a 45 minutes drive) to Tres Palmas was like a fairly tale drive through thick tropical forest and lush vegetation running down from the mountains and touching the ocean to our left. Birds and wildlife were abundant, but there was a noticeable lack of traffic, road signs, power lines and people. Perfect!

Along the way we quartered the Gulfo Dulce and at times came to open cattle pastures with majestic views of tubing waves breaking at point breaks in the distance.

Once we reached the entrance to Tres Palmas the fun really began!
The drive up and down the 1 mile road was steep and exciting! The size of the trees towering all around us was incredible and we could hear and see howling monkeys.
My immediate thoughts were, “We've found paradise!” But the best was yet to come.

The Tres Palmas property overlooks Cabo Matapalo. The vista is downright breathtaking. I've never witnessed a more moving perspective in all of Costa Rica!

The amazing thing about this area is that there are so many amazing things to do and see.
Within a walking distance you can experience world class surfing, hiking, wildlife, beach combing, fishing and much more.

The accommodations and food were all 5 star class.

This was my fifth multi-week trip to Costa Rica and hands down because of our visit to Tres Palmas it will be always the most memorable and exciting.

Enjoy the Get Away of a lifetime! If you want to get away from it all, and have a vacation like non-other Tres Palmas is the answer. Experience the jungles, beaches, the adventures of hiking to the waterfalls, repel down a 100 foot wall with the waterfall next to you, or just playing in the pool of water at the base of the falls. Hike through the jungle to the beautiful beaches, enjoy swimming, surfing or bring your boogie board. If that doesn't suit you, take a hike to the tide pools.

We spend part of our day lying by the pool and enjoying the peace and quiet, and the beauty of this 5 star Tres Palmas Resort. Watching the monkeys swing in the trees as they pass the house, or come down to pick a banana off a nearby tree. Tuscan's and McCall's (flying in flocks) or perched in a tree as your floating in the pool.

The 25 acres of land that Tres Palmas is located on offers you privacy and gives you the opportunity to truly experience the outdoors and the beautiful jungle of Costa Rica at it's finest. We loved getting away from the rat race of everyday living. You find yourself having time, to have time for just yourselves. We always feel so renewed and much healthier after a week, two, three even four of staying at this beautiful place. Yet if you have the need for a reality check the little town of Puerto Jimenez is just a short drive away.

Tres Palmas is the place for the person that likes adventure, great hiking experiences, and wants to take in a little heaven on earth.

We have visited Tres Palmas approximately 6 times; we try to go at least once a year usually after the New Year. The weather is beautiful (80's) with a wonderful ocean breeze. The best news of all is that you can pack your suntan lotion and leave your BUG SPRAY at home.

On a scale of 1 to 10, we personally give Tres Palmas a 10. I promise you that the moment you step out of your car you will be Wowed by it's beauty. It is truly a 5-Star experience in every way.

We'll be back! Thank you so very much to our dear friends at Tres Palmas.

What an entirely new experience the Osa Peninsula offers. As two novice travelers, to say the least, sheer volume and relative pristine of natural wonder pleasantly surprised us. I don’t think I can recall another time I’ve ever stepped onto a beach only to see I was the only one there. Its shocking that with such a wide array of attractions and a resource as precious and humbling as a thriving rain forest, that more people don’t find their way here. Perhaps, it’s the roads, worth the bumps.

I’ve been in almost a dozen countries around the world. I’ve seen the sights of Europe, sailed around the Caribbean, and visited about half of the United States, and I’ve yet to find a place as tranquil or relaxing as the Osa Peninsula. Every tour I took was unique and entertaining in its own way. New York is going to seem awfully dull after repelling down a waterfall and surfing in the Gulf.

Osa- Heaven on Earth, peaceful! I hope to take a piece of this tranquil place back with me in my heart. Enjoyed Tres Palmas with all its beauty and many different moods from sunrises, to colors and sounds at sunset. Thank you Lisa for all your info and time to share with us.

The best thing about our experience here at Tres Palmas is Marina Ramirez and Oldemar. Kind, smart and wonderful and every night Marina cooked the most delicious dinners. We were well taken care of and the pool was great. Thanks to Oldemar for getting the red soccer ball out of the jungle!

What a great way to spend three weeks! Nature at its best. We are pretty laid back people but now we are in sloth mode. All good things come to an end at some point but our memories at Tres Palmas will stay with us. To future guests – enjoy and cherish the moment. Marina and Oldemar muchas gracias.

Wow, we had a great week! The weather was great and the house was even better than I imagined. Marina was great. Hope to come back next year.

Nate-PA

That week was so much fun! All of the jungle trails helped us see so many animals. Ready to come back soon. None of us want to leave.

Katie- PA

We had fun! We did a bunch of activities like: zipline, climbing trees, canoeing, hiking and soccer!

Gus- PA

This whole week has been absolutely amazing. Anywhere from walking on the beach to through the jungle was a complete adventure. The house was great and waking up to the sound of the ocean and howler monkeys was even better. I think we all agree that we’ll definitely be back next year.

July 2007

Suns breaking through towering cloud bank obscuring the eastern sky. Howler’s bark in the thick jungle to the east of us and a pair of Mackaws land in the canopy above us such majestic creatures. Banana spiders toil their webs in a dying citrus tree near the pools deck. I guess every tree has its dia. The surf’s small, but the beaches hold such incredible beauty one could sit under the palm trees and watch for hours the tide rise and fall. Soon we will apply sunscreen, grab our surfboards and walk the trail down our Mt. to the beach. This walk alone is worth the price of the admission.
In the two years since we were here last, we notice changes: more land cleared, less camping on the beach and more people. However, Oldemar, Marina, Tony & Mario- caretakers of Tres Palmas remain to be warm, thoughtful and caring family.
The beach calls!

What a fabulous place and view. We found more than 25 different birds just within walking distance and 4 kinds of monkeys and even a 3 toed sloth. The Ramirez family is friendly and helpful. Walking in the morning to the sound of the Howler monkeys, then watching the sunrise listening to the birds was the best part. Most of the food was great, although batter coated cauliflower and cold tuna and paste were definitely different. We love the sound of the ocean, the surfing, hiking and Costa Rica.

George, this year was our second trip to Tres Palmas and as always we had the most wonderful relaxing vacation yet. This time we brought our children and their significant others. It was definitely a different experience for them. Something they’ve never experienced before.

The weather was pretty good considering it’s the rainy season. We love Tres Palmas!!!! Oldermar, Marina, and Tony are the best. They are such friendly, kind people. The ultimate trio family. We plan to make this a tradition. Thanks so much for the use of Tres Palmas. You have heaven on earth here.

Such a short stay in a wonderful place. We came to surf and it delivered. We only surfed Matapalo. The first two days were fun and a few feet low tide high tide we surfed. Some sun but not a whole lot considering the season. The swell we were waiting for hit yesterday and was everything we hoped for. Surfed in the morning with some 10-foot faces. Clean and when a set would come it would get hazy from the pounding waves. We went up to a scrumptious breakfast and relaxed and back to glassier, lined up perfect waves with no one out. It was a bit nerve wracking as Geoff got held down by a couple of mackers (huge waves) and I got stung by a jelly, but it was a session I will remember for a long time.

Its raining now and we have to leave. The Inter-American highway is closed at one point but we have heard the coast road is open. Costa Rica is always full adventure, beauty and fun.

The accommodations of course are magnificent and Marina’s cooking is marvelous. We had steak, fish and ceviche and some delicious coffee and other snacks. I would bring my kids and wife here but only the dry season (Mar & April). It would be a shame not to return to this point so remote from my beloved Cocoa Beach.

Marina and Oldemar were super. Its time to get ready to go, Adios!!

Spectacular setting, beautiful home. Love the neighbors- howlers- toucans-scarlet macaws-parrots and spider monkeys. The trip to the animal sanctuary was a highlight , but the truth is we didn’t want to stay too far from Tres Palmas. There was always a lot of entertainment to be had in the treetops nearby, Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise. I loved everything about it. I wish it were mine.

We came all the way from the Isle of Wight, England to see wildlife and were certainly rewarded, just too many to mention. We loved our stay at Tres Palmas and had so many interesting animals on our doorstep. No need for alarm clocks as the Howler monkeys served the purpose. Had a trip out dolphin watching and saw dozens and also snorkeling, which was interesting. Thank you for our stay!

We came to escape the holidays and succeeded. The house, pool and surrounding beauty were fantastic. Marina and her family were amazing. We had a feast three times a day. The kids never put their shoes on for 10 days. We only left the property to walk down to the beach a few times. Trail needed some work after the rainy season so the kids never made the trek. The beaches were great, as well.
We ate, swam and played games all day. The kids passed out right after dinner and the adults played cards and looked at the stars. The weather was a good balance of rain and sun. We had an amazing rainstorm one night. The air was a wall of water.

Its hard to think about leaving and imagine coming back in the future. We’ll take a couple days to get back to Seattle. It will ease the shock of shore days and the wet and cold that awaits us.

Tres Palmas….
There is so much space. The expanse allows one to breather deeply, to imagine the possibilities and to feel the unimaginable. Circles of nature, of life, are visible here in ways I have not seen before. There is much to be connected to. Marina, Oldemar and Tony are truly amazing spirits! Marina prepared beautiful food with much love. We have been blessed.

“Are you sure this is it?” “Take a look at that driveway!!” It’s hard to imagine what you are going to drive into just looking at the pictures on the computer, but let me tell you, this is paradise we never dreamed of. We have been to Costa Rica once before but the OSA peninsula is far more attractive. If you want to experience the jungle (rainforest) this is it. Each morning between 4-5 it would come alive. I’ve never seen so many different animals and birds in their natural state as in Costa Rica, Osa. I think our favorites were the toucans, Scarlett Macaws, fiery billed Aracari and the mealy & red haired parrots that were nesting in the palm trees by the fabulous pool. WHAT A POOL!

The weather was around 78 degrees at night & 87 degrees through the day. One evening it rained a bit. We loved Oldemar and Marina they are great people. My goodness that women can cook. What a place to come to for a great adventure or just to RELAX!

Thank you Tres Palmas, Marina, Oldemar, Mario and Tony for providing such a wonderful location for our winter / spring getaway. The weather was perfect finishing with a breathtaking rainbow last night. Marina’s dinners were always the perfect ending to each wonderful day. This was a great trip to introduce our little ones to Costa Rica and its many sounds and sights. Although we won’t miss the road and daily drive down to the beach, we will be longing for the sun, pool and wildlife when we return to the slush of a Montana Spring.

Relaxing in a paradise, what a vision you have to cut out a piece of jungle and create a unique home, you are very blessed and talented. Cool breeze lying down by the pool overlooking the Pacific, now hearing the roar of the ocean listening to the sounds of many varieties of birds and monkeys outstanding! This is a place to relax, create, read and pray. It is amazing to see a toucan fly with a large beak and be as graceful as a Humming bird. Wow!

Thanks to Marina, Oldemar, Tony and Mario who’s Costa Rica kindness was not expected not to mention the food Marino cooks was fantastic. Making plans to come back next year and share this with my close friends, fishing great, pool fantastic and accommodations like a 5 star hotel.
